As of July 2026, Arizona DPS requires eight hours of pre-assignment training for an unarmed guard applicant. An armed guard must additionally complete the DPS-approved 16-hour firearms course, followed by an eight-hour armed refresher each calendar year. DPS says only the current versions of its forms will be accepted and notes that forms may be updated multiple times per year. Training completion alone does not mean DPS has issued a registration or that a person may work—especially armed—before the required status and card are in place.
