The required foundation for Arizona security work
Arizona requires an eight-hour unarmed security guard preassignment course taught by an authorized instructor. The current DPS syllabus covers orientation, criminal law and legal authority, uniform standards, communication, use of force, general procedures, crime scenes, ethics, and first response.
Completing training does not automatically issue a guard card or authorize work. Applicants must complete the current Arizona DPS registration process, and guards may not work a security post until they possess a valid card and meet the applicable uniform and employer requirements.
