Healthcare security requires more than a generic guard assignment. Hospitals can involve distressed families, behavioral-health crises, intoxication, long waits, workplace violence, vulnerable patients, medical emergencies, and evidence-sensitive situations. Officers need clearly defined roles, strong communication and de-escalation skills, infection-control awareness, and training on the facility’s emergency codes and prohibited interventions. Clinical decisions and patient restraints remain governed by healthcare policy and qualified clinical personnel; security should not independently practice medicine or disclose protected information.
