DPS-approved training for armed security work
Arizona armed guards must meet the unarmed security guard training requirement and additionally complete the DPS-approved 16-hour firearms training course. The armed course covers firearm safety, legal issues involving deadly physical force, marksmanship, maintenance, familiarization, written testing, and live-fire qualification.
Training completion is one part of the process. Arizona DPS reviews the registration application, fingerprints, fees, background information, and training verification and determines whether an armed registration is issued.
