The short answer
Event guard staffing should be based on duties and risk, not a single attendee ratio. Important factors include attendance, venue size and layout, number of entrances, alcohol service, age mix, ticketing, cash or high-value assets, performers or VIPs, parking, hours, prior incidents, emergency exits, local response resources, and whether the event is public, private, indoor, or outdoor.
What to know
List every post and function first: credential checks, gates, backstage or restricted areas, crowd observation, roving patrols, parking, stage or vendor zones, and command communication. Determine which positions must remain continuously staffed and how breaks, shift changes, and relief will work. Larger attendance does not always create proportionally higher risk, while a smaller event with alcohol, conflict history, or complex access may need more coverage.
Security is one part of the plan. Venue staff, ushers, medical support, barriers, lighting, cameras, emergency communications, and police or fire requirements also affect staffing.
